Topoint USB to HDMI External Video Card

The Topoint USB to HDMI External Video Card is a plug-and-play USB 2.0/3.0 to HDMI external video card for Windows PCs and Mac.

Even though the product description says that no driver is required, a driver is very much required, however the device also functions as a USB storage device when connected and the driver is included for installation when viewing the built-in storage device. Upon installation of the driver, you may be prompted to reboot your computer to complete installation, which is fairly typical when installing a video output device. I tested the device using a Windows 8.1 laptop and was able to install the driver without issue.

When connected via a USB 2.0 port, you’ll be limited to 800×600 screen resolution, but the device will still work. You may also experience occasional flickering if your USB ports are particularly slow. When connected via USB 3.0 however, you’ll be able to select display resolutions up to 1920×1080 (1080p) as well, you’ll also get full audio pass-through for Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital and stereo audio tracks. Again, when connected via USB 2.0, you may experience audio stuttering if your USB ports are particularly slow. Really though, this is a USB 3.0-to-HDMI adapter and the fact that it will function on a USB 2.0 port is basically just icing on the cake.

When running on USB 3.0, the adapter allows you to run in one of four different screen modes; mirrored display, extended desktop, rotated display and as the single display (disabling built-in graphics). In USB 2.0, the only display mode you’re able to select is mirrored display. Again though, that’s not really a major issue.

With the fact that this adapter is super lightweight and portable, as well as the ease-of-use, I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to expand their desktop computer’s display abilities without purchasing an expensive video card, or for anyone looking to use an additional display on their laptop computer.
